These are some of the questions that come up again and again. Please contact us if you have any other questions relating to our travel experiences.
What currency do I need for Vietnam.
USD in clean unmarked notes, local Dong can be obtained on arrival. USD is best to bargain
with or for purchasing larger items, Dong in markets and street cafes. As Dong bank notes

Will my credit card and eftpos card work in Asia?
Most countries now have eftpos machines and you can withdraw local currency, check
with your bank what the charges are and compare this with the new Travel cash passports.
Travellers cheques are no longer valid/not accepted in many places now.
How will I be able to communicate?
In most countries local people are keen to try out their English on you and you will be
surprised how many people can speak English. If we have arranged your travel you will
be guided by our local English speaking staff. If your first language is not English we can
request other language speaking guides. If all else fails use sign language, smile and enjoy
the fun.
I have special dietary requirements is that a problem?
We often have clients on our tours who have either a medical or cultural reason requiring
a special diet we can normally accommodate you. However it would not be advisable to
travel in Asia if you had a serious condition such as a severe allergy to nuts. Gluten free,
vegetarian, Halal etc will not present a problem.
Is there an upper age restriction on your tours?
You are never too old to travel with Active Travel. Our tours are graded and are dependent
on fitness and adaptability rather than the number of birthdays you have had. We will be
honest with you about the difficulty of our tours and advise a different option if it is deemed
too difficult. We want you to enjoy your holiday not find it an endurance test.
Can children join your tours?
We normally do not accept children under 12 years of age on a group tour, however we have
no lower age restriction on our tailor made tours and are happy to design a tour that will take
in the needs and interests of younger clients
What vaccinations do I need?
Normally very few. When you book on one of our tours you will receive a pre departure pack
outlining everything you need to know about your trip including vaccinations. Unless you are
travelling well off the beaten track it is unlikely you will need anti malarials, we will advise on
specific destinations and itineraries.
Will my cell phone work?
Probably but do you really need it? Sometimes getting right away from all these mod cons is
a holiday in itself. Anyway imagine 12 people on a tour and all their cell phones ringing at the
same time. If you really must then restrict its use and think of others. Buying a local sim card
is usually much cheaper than using international roaming.
I don’t want to pay a single supplement can I room share on tour?
We will do our best to room share you with a same sex companion, however if there is no
one suitable we may need to charge you the single room supplement. This will depend on
the tour and the number of participants. Of course you can choose to have your own room if
you wish but you will need to pay a surcharge.
Do I need a first aid kit?
If on an escorted tour your tour escort will have a full first aid kit. In that case you only need
personal medication, sun block and bug repellent so save some bag weight and use ours.
I can’t travel without my hair dryer and makeup, is that a problem?
If on a leisure tour absolutely not a problem. If on an adventure tour – well you should
consider if you are on the right trip. Free yourself and look like everyone else, natural and
relaxed, of course the luxury of one lippy will not hurt.
